Can I use LuxCreo's proprietary resins on other printers?
No. LuxCreo's proprietary resins have only been validated for use on LuxCreo's end-to-end solution.
What is the LuxCreo 4D20 Program?
The 4D20 program, also known as the Aligner Ambassador Program is an initiative designed to support in-house direct print aligner production with LuxCreo's help. Participating practices receive discounted cases in exchange for case data which helps LuxCreo continually improve and evolve our product for the best possible patient outcomes. Practices learn and adopt the direct print workflow, yielding more efficient and accurate results, all at a fraction of the cost.

How do I clean my DCA appliances like 4D Aligner™?
It is important for customers to know that our materials are different from traditional thermoformed appliances and require different care. Daily soaking for 1 to 2 hours in hot water and polydent is important in keeping appliances clean and stain free.
Customers can also use LuxCreo's Rejuv™ Kit or see Support Article 285, which goes in depth on appliance cleaning processes.

What is LuxCreo?

What makes LuxCreo different from other dental 3D printing companies?
LuxCreo is the first company to receive US FDA Class II 510(k) clearance for direct 3D printed clear aligner production. Most dental printers produce models that still have to be thermoformed into aligners. LuxCreo prints the aligner itself, removing the thermoforming step entirely, and creating a new orthodontic ecosystem based on ActiveMemory™ polymers.

What is a direct-print aligner?
A direct-print aligner is a clear aligner printed directly on a 3D printer in its final form, rather than thermoformed with plastic over a printed model. LuxCreo prints direct-print aligners from its DCA (Dental Clear Aligner) resin using the iLux Pro Dental printer.
What is the iLux Pro Dental printer?
The iLux Pro Dental is a DLP 3D printer for dental clinics and labs. Built on LuxCreo's LEAP™ platform, it prints direct-print aligners, models, retainers, splints, surgical guides, nightguards, and temporary crowns. It can produce up to 12 aligners in a single build and is designed for same-day production.
What is the LuxCreo 4D Aligner™?
4D Aligner™ is a direct-printed clear aligner made from LuxCreo's ActiveMemory™ Polymer. The polymer has a shape-memory and force-recovery property: a brief hot-water soak reactivates the aligner to its original printed shape and force. LuxCreo describes this as a self-correcting behavior that helps the aligner hold its intended geometry through wear and provides consistent tooth movement throughout treatment.
Why is it called "4D" Aligner?
Because they add a time dimension through material memory. This allows the aligner to actively evolve during treatment, leading to more predictable and controlled tooth movement. It also creates a larger design space — enabling features like variable thickness and advanced functions that traditional thermoformed aligners cannot achieve.
Is LuxCreo FDA-cleared?
Yes. LuxCreo holds US FDA Class II 510(k) clearance for direct 3D printed clear aligner production, and its dental resins are biocompatible and FDA cleared for their intended uses. LuxCreo 4D Aligners are currently cleared or approved in the United States (FDA), Europe (MDR CE), Canada, China, Japan, and Taiwan.
What can I print with the iLux Pro system?
Direct-print clear aligners, orthodontic and dental models, retainers, flippers, occlusal splints and nightguards, surgical guides, temporary crowns, EMA sleep oral appliances, and other restorative appliances.
Can I use third-party resins?
Yes. The iLux Pro Dental is compatible with LuxCreo's own resins and supports a robust and growing library of 21+ validated third-party resins, from trusted companies such as Glidewell, Rodin, Keystone, Dreve, Desktop Health, ALW, and Detax — printing appliances ranging from veneers and crowns to inlays and AOX.
How long does it take to print aligners?
The system is built for same-day production. From scan to smile, the entire process takes just 2 hours — 1 hour for printing, and 1 hour for post-processing.
What is included in the LuxCreo workflow?
The workflow runs from design to delivery: LuxDesign for appliance design and one-click print preparation and slicing, the iLux Pro printer for printing, iLuxWash for solvent cleaning, LuxOven for removing volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and iLuxCure Pro for UV curing.
Do I need special training to use it?
No. The system is designed for one-click, automated operation, and LuxCreo reports that staff can be trained to produce aligners consistently with about half a day of training.
What happens if something goes wrong with the printer?
LuxCreo's Customer Success team offers omni-channel support — phone, email, remote diagnostics, or on-site visits — and reports engaging 99% of support tickets within 60 minutes. Support also includes proactive system health monitoring, firmware updates, and preventive maintenance alerts rather than purely reactive troubleshooting.

How much does the LuxCreo system cost?
The complete iLux Pro Dental direct-print aligner bundle starts at approximately $20,899 and includes the printer, the iLuxCure Pro, iLuxOven Pro, and iLuxWash units, LuxFlow and LuxDesign software, unlimited support, and starter resin (able to print 120 aligners). How does direct printing save time and cost compared with traditional aligners?
By removing the thermoforming step, LuxCreo reports substantially lower active labor per aligner compared with traditional thermoforming, along with reduced polishing time, because the aligner comes off the printer in its finished form thanks to LuxCreo's Digital Polishing™ technology. LuxCreo is the first company in the industry able to offer direct-print aligners at roughly the same cost as brackets — around $10 in material and labor per step across 20+ steps, plus $50–150 for the treatment plan — by lowering the cost of material, treatment planning, and labor.
